Curtain Size Calculator

Plan finished curtain panel widths and cut drop from a pole or track width—not the glass. Adjust fullness, choose a pair or single panel, and add editable header, hem and side allowances. Output is a planning estimate, not a professional cutting ticket.

Workings

  1. Pole/track width: 2000 mm (not glass width)
  2. Fullness applied once: 2000 mm × 2 = 4000 mm total finished width
  3. Panel split: Pair → 2 panels → 2000 mm finished width each
  4. Panel cut width: 2000 mm + 2 × 50 mm side hem = 2100 mm
  5. Finished drop: 2400 mm
  6. Cut drop: 2400 mm + 200 mm header + 150 mm hem = 2750 mm

Defaults are illustrative planning assumptions and remain editable.

Do not treat the result as a professional cutting ticket.

Pass the total finished width (after fullness) into the fabric yardage calculator so fullness is not applied twice.

Next: open the fabric yardage calculator with 4000 mm total finished width and 2 panels.

How to use this curtain size plan

  1. Measure the pole or track width across the opening, not the glass alone.
  2. Set fullness once. The total finished width is track × fullness.
  3. Choose a pair or single panel. The finished width is split only by panel count.
  4. Enter the finished drop, then review cut drop after header and hem allowances.
  5. Carry the total finished width into the fabric yardage calculator without applying fullness again.

Worked example

Track 2000 mm, fullness 2, pair panels, finished drop 2400 mm, header 200 mm, hem 150 mm, side hem 50 mm each side:

  • Total finished width = 2000 × 2 = 4000 mm
  • Each panel finished width = 4000 ÷ 2 = 2000 mm
  • Each panel cut width = 2000 + 2 × 50 = 2100 mm
  • Cut drop = 2400 + 200 + 150 = 2750 mm

Curtain size FAQ

Is the width the glass or the pole/track?

Use the pole or track width, not the glass width. The planner multiplies that running width by fullness to estimate the total finished curtain width.

What does fullness mean here?

Fullness is an editable planning ratio of finished curtain width to pole/track width. A value of 2 means twice the track width in total finished fabric across the opening. It is applied once on this page.

How do pair and single panels differ?

A pair splits the total finished width into two equal panels. A single panel keeps the whole finished width in one piece. Side hems are added to each panel’s cut width.

How are header and hem allowances used?

Finished drop is the hanging length you want. Cut drop adds the editable header allowance and hem allowance, then rounds up to the next millimetre.

Is this a professional cutting ticket?

No. Figures are transparent planning estimates with illustrative defaults. Check fabric, heading system, workroom method and maker allowances before cutting or ordering.
